Ultrasound is a spectrum of sound which starts just beyond the human hearing range (20Hz to 20kHz). Certain animals like Rats/bats/dolphins have the ability to detect ultrasound with varying frequency ranges. The rats/rodents are mainly nocturnal and their night vision isn’t as good. They rely on ultrasound for communication (distress signalling/mating calls) and to a certain extent echo location. CARCAT Duo bombards ultrasound waves with unique patterns which disturb and disorient the rat/rodent. The ultrasound intensity is much more intense and deafening than the rat/rodent can tolerate. To add to its woes, these wave patterns interfere with the echo location and cuts out incoming ultrasound signatures of its natural predators like snakes and cats and also other rats and rodents. They are also very territorial creatures and will attack and kill another trespassing rat/rodent. Ultrasound is its sixth sense and blocking that makes it very insecure of its environment.

If CARCAT Duo is installed as per the installation manual the rats/rodents should stop visiting within a week. Rats/rodents are stubbornly territorial and they will resist relocating as long as possible and it is as per the individual rat/rodent's tolerance limits against CARCAT Duo's ultrasound bombardment. • It is advised that the car engine bay area be thoroughly cleaned and washed at the garage making sure rat feces and urine traces are removed as far as possible. Rats/rodent like most animals mark and identify their territory with their urine.
• Keep checking the engine bay area for feces/urine traces for a few days post installation and clean it immediately. The rat/rodent may not be able to stay too long in the presence of ultrasound bombardment but will try and mark its territory.
• For really heavy infestation tobacco pouches can be put at the time of installation for a more immediate two-pronged effects and force the rat/rodent to relocate or find another shelter.
• Park the vehicle at a different location for a few days.

CARCAT Duo repels rats/rodents by bombarding ultrasound. It is a very unbearable sound level for them. They may visit or use to escape a prey but will not be able to stay for too long to cause any damage. No, the strobing white LED does not take more current. It takes the current similar to CARCAT – 1^st gen.

As such nothing happens to electronics inside as it is meant for auto grade temperatures. But since the white LED is exposed, it may get covered up with mud or dust, in such cases it is recommended to clean the CARCAT Duo rat repellent front grill area once in a while for proper functioning/effectiveness of the white LED on CARCAT Duo.

Yes. It doesn’t matter whether your car is front or rear engine, as long as installation is in accordance to as mentioned in the installation manual. For cars having engines at the bottom (eg. Maruti Ecco) installation should be such that dirt does not accumulate on the front grill of CARCAT Duo.

CARCAT Duo has been thoroughly tested on all segments of cars from small cars to SUVs. As such it can be used in vehicles having a 12 to 24VDC electrical system (battery) and an enclosed engine bay area. CARCAT Duo is easy to install. A seasoned mechanic should be able to do it in 10-15 minutes.

Yes. CARCAT Duo comes with screws, fuse and cable ties. All you need is a mechanic to fit it and get it running.

It is recommended CARCAT Duo loop connectors be directly connected to the battery terminals. For cars wherein battery is not in the engine bay, connect to live terminals that come to the engine bay area.

The following indicates CARCAT Duo is functioning properly;

The BEEPs may not be audible in a noisy surrounding. Try a quieter location, else unit needs replacement.

Yes. CARCAT Duo is harmless to pets. Though some pets may be able to hear the lower ranges of ultrasound frequency, they will not be disturbed or harmed inside the passenger cabin. In fact, the ultrasound sound pressure level (SPL) produced by CARCAT Duo will not even harm the rats / rodents only cause auditory distress.

CARCAT Duo consumes less than 0.7 watts which is much less power than the other always "ON" gadgets like security system, etc. consume. Car batteries use lead acid chemistry which does not have a very long standby time even if they are disconnected, because they self-discharge at a typical rate of 4% to 10% depending on the make, age and use of battery.

A typical 35 Ah small car battery should work for at least a month considering a 4% discharge rate and assuming full charge.

Yes. CARCAT Duo works on your car battery. Similar to a car security system, it cannot protect against rats/rodents if it is not powered.
